For over 20 years Amy Cheney, with a B.A. in English/Creative Writing and a Master of Library and Information Science from San Jose State University, has served non- and reluctant readers from preschool to adult (in schools, county and federal facilities, preschools and juvenile halls). In addition to creating literacy and reading programs, Cheney created a national network to improve library related services to at-risk, disadvantaged and vulnerable youth, with a national listserve for librarians.
Cheney was instrumental in establishing the national organization Library Services for Youth in Custody . As a = book reviewer and blogger, she is known for finding and bringing self-published and little known gems to light. She launched the In the Margins book list and award, bringing greater diversity to the library world and authority to librarians working in challenging environments with reluctant readers. She has won two National awards: I Love My Librarian Award from the Carnegie Institution/New York Times (10 out of 3500 librarians) and in 19__ was honored at the White House with a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.
